I have been fascinated with art ever since the night my mom/art teacher showed me how to draw an airplane. When she told me the reason why she had drawn one wing smaller than the other, I remember feeling like I had just learned the secret to doing a magic trick. I'm happy to say that the spell of perspective and art continues to lift me to this day.
My grandfather retired to work full time at his auto body paint and repair shop. As children, my brother and I got paid to learn how to properly pepare a vehicle for painting. My father finally allowed me to play with paint and bought me a single-action airbrush kit. I was then set up in the paint room of "down da shop" where I used rectangle pieces of sheet metal (that my grampa cut out for me) as my painting surfaces. An a-framed wave about to break under the moonlight was my very first airbrush painting.
The big, colored dots to the left were test shots from my grandfather. The small dots on the bottom were mine.
All the surfboards were built by Mark Brog of Soul Performance Surfboards, painted by yours truly, glassed by Mauro Teixeira, and finished by Alvaro Roman. Big mahalo to the crew of Soul Performance for helping me grow as an artist and as a soul rebel. Please visit: www.soulperformance.com
