Pablo Manlapit
40" x 30" Acrylic on canvas
Pablo Manlapit was the first Filipino to practice law in Hawai'i. He organized and fought for the rights of sugar plantation laborers in the 1920's. I painted this with hopes to inspire a co-worker who believed she deserved a raise, but was too afraid to ask for it. I chose this metaphor because she was a half Filipino, Hawai'i born, law firm employee.
